W! T! F!

Tonight, I went to the Mall of America with Michelle. We got carded on our way into the mall.

Do you know how old you have to be to be allowed into the Mall of America on a weekend night by yourself? (i.e., without a "grown-up?")

Sixteen.

Yes, sixteen.

I finally stopped getting carded for R-rated movies somewhere around my 22nd birthday.

I am 27 years old. I sometimes don't get carded when getting into bars any more.

The only thing we could conclude from our ordeal (when he asked to see our IDs, I replied, "you've got to be kidding me," and he replied, "no ma'am, I never kid" -- um, he called me "ma'am," yet suspected I was possibly 15??) was that the security guard was a complete tool and on a power trip.

For F's sake! I'm 27 and Michelle's 28! We don't look like we are FIFTEEN!

One more reason I really hate the Mall of America, way deep down in the inner chambers of my soul.

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago when I went to the Mall of America! I totally thought the guard was joking at first, but he wasn't...

Gosh, I've never been carded at a mall (well, I don't go to malls), but I do know what you mean about looking younger. I'm 25 and people think I'm between 18 and 21. That is a weird story, ma'am.

Strange, my name didn't appear on my comment above...it was me! Courtney!

What's going on at the Mall of America that requires minors to be accompanied by an adult? Hmmmm....

Catherine...I was going through some old posts of yours and came across the one about your kitchen. First off, I'm jealous...because your kitchen is so much better than mine, haha. Anyways, I've been thinking I have to make use of my wall space and have been looking for a spice rack I can put on the wall...where did you get yours??? I've been keeping my spice jars in a basket in a cupboard...but my collection is quickly growing.

I completely know what you're feeling. I get carded everywhere and people always tell me that I look 16 (I'm 27). If I'm feelng snippy, I tell them, "It'll be great when I'm your age because I'll look 10 years younger."

I think we can both call it a draw on the Diet Coke. Congratulations! I think this was a great challange for both of us.

That's funny! Someone was either power crazy or told to be extreme! Or..you're adorable!

I will add that I've been to the MOA and found is terrifying, though I really did enjoy the Minneapolis Feb. weather : )

Courtney, isn't it awful? I got carded a few times right after I moved here, (I was only 18 or 19 then, so it made sense,) but now? Really.

Leslie, I feel your pain. I have the hardest time looking younger when dealing with parents of the children I teach -- very few take me seriously, and many look at me and think I'm pretentious. Bah!

Jennifer, nothing that I can think of! I think it's some anti-shoplifting thing or something. Regardless, it's a pain!

Melissa, my spice racks are from Cost Plus World Market -- I haven't been there in a while, but they have quite the variety of wall-mount spice racks. The jars I had leftover from two countertop racks I used to own, but now I don't bother transferring the spices to matching jars any more. Ah, the things that used to be important to me . . . !!

Crystal, hip-hip hooray for both of us! Here's to no more Diet Coke!

Jess, I love the weather in Minnesota in Feburary . . . what are you talking about? :)

(P.S. It's supposed to flurry on Thursday! Wooooo!!! Bring on the snow!)

That's a funny story- the guard was just being a functionary (very Kafka-esque) but you should feel flattered anyway. I'm 27 and I get a little upsed when I don't get carded... my how things change!
Here in Syracuse, teenagers have a curfew at the mall and also have to be accompanied by adult. Because, hey, who knows when too much unsupervised "hanging" and "chilling" are allowed to go on!
