vegan concrete?

This is etched into the sidewalk in my neighborhood:

I guess the ingredients in concrete must be vegan!

I think the ingredients in concrete are crap, but the etching is nice...

You've found so many interesting things lately... I'm still in awe of your receipt. There are so many 13's that it must be bizarro world- in other words, the 13s must be good luck for you! I hope so!

Melissa, I know -- isn't that cool? I've been noticing the vegan sidewalk for over a year now, and have just now gotten around to taking a picture of it for you all!

Leslie, I'd be curious to find out what actually goes into concrete!

Bazu, I'm still giggling about the 13s too! I tend to run into 11s more often, but given that it was Friday the 13th . . . !?!

Megan, nah -- the vegan sidewalk predates me in this neck of the woods. I've only lived in this 'hood for just under three years -- the date stamp on the sidewalk is older than that. (I wish, though!)

Thanks, Julie!

Here ya go Catherine. From wikipedia:

The most common form of concrete consists of Portland cement, construction aggregate (generally gravel and sand) and water.

Concrete does not solidify from drying after mixing and placement; the water reacts with the cement in a chemical process known as hydration. This water is absorbed by cement, which hardens, gluing the other components together and eventually creating a stone-like material. When used in the generic sense, this is the material referred to by the term concrete.

To bad this isn't etched in every sidewalk! What a cool find.

That receipt is really crazy!
