really crap news.

I had this super-fun post planned out for you all, about how to survive 14-hour days while eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner away from home, but since I'm not going to have to DO that any more, it seems sort of pointles.

Why? Because I was laid off yesterday from my full-time job.

I was offered some severance pay, which I took, and immediately found myself with 40 hours at my "part-time" job beginning next week, (thank you, Mike!), but I'm still in shock, my feelings are hurt, and I'm a little angry, too. (The way this whole thing went down was just . . . lousy, to say the least.) I didn't get much sleep last night, (I may allow myself an unusual second cup of coffee this morning, to get through my 4-hour shift at the store this morning,) and am not looking forward to going in on Monday to pick up all of my stuff (mostly books) and explain why I'm not going to be their teacher any more to the kids. That's going to be the hardest part.

My budget is going to take an even bigger hit than anticipated originally, so we'll see how creative I can get. Thank goodness it's nearly Farmer's Market season, where the produce is fresh, local, and most importantly, CHEAP.

Wish me luck. Off to apply for health insurance now.

That SUCKS! How strange for a mid-year layoff... I'm glad to hear your part time job will bump to full time, but still ouch.

And insurance is the worst. :(

Sorry to hear. This current economic state isn't too pleasing. But I know you can get through this!

So sorry to hear this! That really is crappy. Glad that you were able to get some extra hours at the other job. . . best of luck with the search, and hope it goes quickly!

I'm so so sorry.. *hugs*

I really feel for you.. and having to explain to the kids has got to be heartwrenching.

Just try to take it an hour at at time. Expect that you will feel many emotions from one minute to the next.... that is very normal...

Hang in there..

I'm a lurker who's been visiting your blog for at least a year, and thought I'd come out of the wood work to give you my sympathies. It's an icky time out there, work-wise. :( I hope everything works out at the other job!

Oh, Catherine. I'm so sorry. It's apparent from your writing how much you love being with those kids. I'm sure that's hurting more than being laid off!

You can make it through this, though! So happy your other job was able to increase your hours!

I've been reading for a while but have never commented. I'm coming out now to say I'm so sorry this happened. It's always hard, especially if you didn't see it coming. Good luck telling the children tomorrow.

Catherine, I'm so sorry to hear the news. I know how you feel because it happened to me in February. One day you're working hard and the next day you're packing up your belongings and wondering what the heck is in store for the future!

Hang in there! At least you have some severance to help you through and who knows what may happen because of this.

You'll have your good days and your bad days...just make it a goal to have more good days than bad (and I'm sure you will since you are such a positive, happy person!)
