A mystery.

I am amazed at how I am continually able to destroy my kitchen, even though I haven't been to the grocery store in over two weeks! I have no fresh produce in my fridge, save for a grapefruit and what I bought at the apple orchard on Sunday, and yet I'm still able to cook. It's truly a mystery.

Dinner the other night:
example
(Peanut coconut soba noodles with frozen broccoli and shelled edamame)

The red, white, and blue popcorn I bought at the apple orchard:
example
(I try to make a giant pot of popcorn once a week or so, just to have on hand for a salty snack -- one can only eat so many nuts, right?)

Dinner tonight:
example
(Barbecued tofu on a wholegrain roll, acorn squash, and frozen green beans)

Dessert tonight:
example
(Nava Atlas's chocolate brownie cake from her website -- and don't you just love my teacups? I found them in my storage locker the other week . . . forgot I had them!)

Sigh.

Times like this, I really wish I had a dishwasher.

my dishwasher is my very best friend in the whole wide world. Nice to see your foodstuff....it all looks great.

Hahahaha. Sigh is the only word that would work in that situation. I feel your pain though! That's the one downfall of all my cooking, baking...three sinks of dishes to do :(I don't think my mess has ever gotten that bad though!

ahhh! I'm going to post some pictures of my kitchen and you'll be able to see how similar they are. I take it you live in an apartment?

I just have one sink and no dishwasher and it drives me nuts! I spent almost an hour last night scrubbing dishes just so I can cook tonight after work. We're in a vicious cycle - we wash dishes so we can have room to make more!!

Megan, I'm so jealous -- actually, when I was looking at apartments before I moved into this one, I looked at one with a dishwasher . . . and almost cried! The apartment was plain and white and beige and in a boring, crummy neighborhood, but it had a dishwasher . . . !

Melissa, what's so funny about this is, because my kitchen is so small, it really only took me a little over a half an hour to do most of the dishes! (I held off on the plastic containers because I ran out of room for the clean dishes. Ha!) Apartment life!

Johanna, thanks! The barbecue tofu was pretty good. This was a third technique that I tried last night.

Mary, I do live in an apartment! An apartment that is around 550 square feet! I've had to get pretty creative about space and storage, and just having less stuff, which is a good thing. And I feel your pain on the one sink front -- I HATE IT! I finally got a small dish tub, which has made doing the dishes lots easier, but it's still a pain. (My sink is also only 5 1/2 inches deep. Ack!)

Wow your sink looks just like mine. Sink-area, rather.
